Professional Practices for Emerging Artists
Whether you are preparing for your first exhibition or looking to develop a more focused artistic practice, this introductory course provides practical tools for navigating the contemporary art world. Through a combination of studio work, discussion, critique, and hands-on exercises, students will develop a small, cohesive body of work while learning how to present themselves and their artwork professionally. Topics include developing an artistic voice, building a portfolio, writing artist statements and biographies, documenting artwork, preparing exhibition submissions, and applying to artist calls, grants, and residency opportunities. Students will leave the course with the beginnings of a professional portfolio package and a stronger understanding of how to share their work with the broader arts community. No Class Oct 12. See STUDENT SUPPLY LIST in Notes section below. Instructor: Celan Bouillet
